Martyn and Robert organised our third outing, this time returning to Coventry. Nine members met at the train station, which was surprising given that England were playing. The theme was hoping to build on the first two outings, looking for Architectural Abstracts, but also encouraging members to shoot whatever inspired them.
It was a warm evening, with some lovely light.
We started off outside Elle’s restaurant/bar, where there was a small crowd watching the England game on an outside TV.
Nine photographers with long lenses, all pointing them in different directions, did attract some interest from passers by, who couldn’t figure out what we doing, but were happy to talk to us. Martyn spotted 2 girls on a bench posing as if they were models, but when he asked them if he could take their portraits, they weren’t so keen.
From there, we crossed the road to the area in front of Friars House, looking for some reflections in the glass front of the building. At this point the sun went behind some black clouds, so we had to wait a while until the reflected clouds appeared again.

We then went down the right hand side of Friars House, onto St Patricks road. Here we explored the buildings looking for images and made our way down to New Union Street. We walked past the now empty Little Park Street Police Station, and then crossing the road, we walked into Salt Lane, down Shrub Walk, coming out at The Curve. The light reflecting off the buildings in Salt Lane and off the Wave building, was beautiful.
From here, we made our way to Warwick Row and back up towards the train Station. It was a great evening with a lot of people experiencing area’s they didn’t know existed.
On getting back to our start point, Elle’s restaurant/bar, a drink was very much in order, so we all indulged. Coffee, soft drinks and beer were consumed, before we all headed for home. (Someone even had the last slice of Bakewell Tart)!
Yet another lovely evening, with like minded friends, doing what we all love.
Thanks again Martyn and Robert.
As a final thought, we discussed last night, how popular these summer shoots are becoming, and that more people are becoming more confident, and are engaging by sharing images on our Facebook page.
As Russ has often said, we all take lots of images, that then sit on our computers unless we think they are competition worthy. Why? ………. The Facebook page is a great way for us all to share images we have taken, that we like, and might inspire others.
