JPS Merit Competition Round Three

The Third round of our Annual Merit Competition. Members will be asked to submit up to 2 dpi (digital photographic images) on any subject. The only provisos being they must have been taken within the last two years, and not been in one of our competitions before. Additionally one image can be submitted into the "Fun Set Subject" category, the theme  decided at the previous round is "IN MOTION", so these images must be taken after theme selection. The images…

Members’ Lecturettes

Share with us photographs on one of your favourite topics. Short (15 minutes or so) “lecturettes” by members have, in the past, provided unusual and fascinating insights into members’ hobbies, adventures, holidays or just particular styles. We have had them on subjects as diverse as Ice Hockey, Cities, British Landscapes, Motorsport, Trains, and Weird (?). Every talk is different and all produce interest and learning points.

JPS Panel Competition

This week is our Annual Panel Competition; this year for DPI only. Panels require a set of 3 images that work as a group, on any subject. This will be judged online by an external judge. Post Processing Challenge

Each one of us makes different interpretations of a scene, when we take photographs and when we tweak them later. A light hearted but interesting evening where members will be asked to submit some images for others to post-process. We will then be able to look at the results and see the variations that can be achieved, or just the recovery of difficult images. Image requests will be sent out in the weekly newsletter nearer the time.

Monochrome

A long standing favourite technique for increasing focus on shapes, shadows and subjects. Monochrome, usually black and white, can be a very powerful means to put across your story. Tonight we will share and discuss members' and professional images with a view to exploring "What makes a good Monochrome Image". Nearer the time members will be invited to submit some of their favourites.

Creativity Project

She is most well known for her stunning, award-winning images shot on her iPhone. The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) runs a number of respected national competitions. This evening’s presentation will comprise a run through of many of the accepted images from 2019’s Inter Federation Competitions in the nature category. We will have the opportunity to view and discuss what makes them competition winners, and also decide if we agree with the judges!

This is the JPS Annual Competition for Members, reviewed by an external Judge, and divided into 4 categories: Pictorial, Portrait, Flora & Fauna, and Set Subject (which this year is "Mechanical World"). This year we are focussing on projected images only. Members are invited to enter up to five images across the first three categories, and up to two further images in the set subject.
